Reclaim Silence in a Noisy World
It's 2024, but walking into your local grocery store can feel like stepping back into 1998—from the platform sandals to the Birkenstocks and butterfly clips. The 90's nostalgia is undeniable, but what if it's more than romanticizing grunge? Maybe it reflects a longing for simpler times: when we had space to breathe, free from constant notifications.
At Rise Centered, we're dedicated to helping you create more space for yourself. Our Sunrise Alarm Clock doesn't need an app, so you can unplug and embrace digital downtime. But how do we find moments to reset and reconnect in a noisy world?
Hi, I'm Erin, assistant to founder Emily and in-house copywriter at Rise Centered. I used to fill my free time with podcasts and YouTube deep dives. The constant stimulation left me drained. When a friend suggested incorporating small pockets of silence to recharge, I tried it—and it worked. Now, I feel more energized and connected.
Science supports this: sitting in silence allows your brain to process thoughts, experiences, and emotions. It lowers stress hormones, shifts your nervous system into rest mode, and boosts creativity and self-awareness. The best part? You don't need hours—just a few mindful pauses can make a difference.
Silence can feel daunting if you're out of practice. To help, we've created a list of ways to incorporate silence into your day, no major lifestyle changes required.
SILENCE HACKS
To reset and reenergize your brain
Opt for a silent commute. When you're on the road, turn off your music or podcast, even if it's just for the first 10 minutes.
Go for a distraction-free walk. Leave your headphones at home and bask in nature's (or the city's) sounds.
Give your brain a break. When you finish work, or in between work sprints, set a timer for 5 minutes or more to sit and do nothing in silence.
Journal it out. Combine the power of silence with actively processing your day by writing it down.
Do your daily chores without stimulation. Tidy your space in silence, and give your brain the space to tidy itself too.
Wishing you the gift of silence,
Erin & the Rise Centered Team
